About The French Bulldog

Listed are the important things you should know when considering this breed. We encourage you to do your own research anytime you're considering a new breed and please, if you cannot treat them like family, simply do not get one.
French Bulldogs, affectionately known as "Frenchies," are beloved for their charming personalities, unique appearance and adaptability. However, understanding their specific needs and traits is essential before bringing one into your home.
Key Traits:
Small to medium-sized( typically weighing 16–28 pounds). A muscular dog of heavy bone, compactly built with distinctive "bat like" ears (wider at the bottom and rounded on top) and a smooth short coat.
Temperament:
-
Very friendly, affectionate and great companions for families, singles, or seniors.
-
Also referred to as "Clown Dogs" because of their silly quirks and funny personalities.
-
Playful and sociable, yet content to relax, making them excellent at adapting to many different living environments, from a house on a farm to apartments in the city.
-
Loyal and, eager to please, yet sometimes bullheaded and very intelligent.
Exercise Needs:
Frenchies are energetic, but have moderate activity requirements; short daily walks and playtime suffice
(Avoid overexertion, especially in hot weather, as Frenchies are prone to overheating).
Health Considerations:
French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic (flat-faced) breed, which can lead to breathing challenges. They must avoid extreme heat and strenuous activity.
Our breeding program prioritizes the health of every puppy by conducting genetic health testing on all our working dogs. Each dog is cleared for genetic diseases. Individual pups are not health-tested unless requested, as they are clear by parentage.
We now only use studs that are OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) evaluated with excellent scores for spine, hips, eyes, heart, trachea, and more.
Regular vet checkups remain essential.
Maintenance:
Short coats make grooming simple, but seasonal shedding occurs.
Long haired Frenchies (Fluffies) should be brushed weekly to keep their fluffy from matting, but very minimal shedding occurs
Clean facial folds regularly to prevent infections.
Living Environment:
Their compact size and low exercise needs make them adaptable to apartments or houses.
Frenchies thrive indoors and enjoy staying close to their owners. They should never live outdoors or be kept unattended outside. They do not tolerate extreme heat or cold.
Socialization and Training:
Early socialization helps to ensure a confident, well-behaved dog.
Positive reinforcement is the best training approach for this breed. Although they can be stubborn, they are intelligent and can be easily trained when using the right training approach.
Lifespan:
With proper care and attention, French Bulldogs typically live 10–12 years. Our oldest Frenchie lived to be 18 years old! genetics, proper diet and regular cares play a big roll in a Frenchies lifespan.
Key points to Consider Before Getting a French Bulldog…
Attention/ Needs:
Frenchies are highly social and crave human interaction. They may develop separation anxiety if left alone for extended periods of time. If you works 8+ hours a day (unless you work remotely or have someone to keep them company throughout the day) this could cause anxiety, depression and/or behavioral issues.
Health and Breeding:
Find a breeder who takes the importance of health testing seriously and invest in it on all of their working dogs.
Our primary goal is to raise quality French Bulldogs with excellent health (they are genetically health tested with clear results)
Great structure ( NO pigeon feet, wry mouth, elbow incongruity etc.)
Wonderful temperaments (Parents have excellent temperaments, pups are well socialized, ENS trained, etc.).
These three things go hand in hand (Health, structure and temperament) when producing quality.
Costs:
Between their purchase price, health screening (unexpected medical, which is why we recommend getting pet insurance), healthy diet and proper care, owning a Frenchie is definitely an investment.
Breathing Challenges:
Due to their flat faces, Frenchies may snore or experience breathing difficulties, requiring special care in hot or humid climates.
Suitability for Families:
French Bulldogs are wonderful with children and other pets but require supervision due to their size and sensitive nature.
French Bulldogs are loving and extremely loyal companions who bring joy to their humans. By understanding their unique needs and ensuring they come from a responsible breeder, you can provide them with a happy, healthy life. If you’re ready for a playful, cuddly, and often times quirky companion, a Frenchie might be the perfect fit!
